The time I tried making homemade doughnuts

It's always something I have wanted to do-make homemade doughnuts, but it's a little intimidating.  Not just the doughnuts, but the thought of facing splattering oil (I think I may have an irrational fear of oil), and the reality that lies within the scale after having homemade doughnuts around my house.

And yeah.

Let's just say, I have a lot of work to do for my doughnuts to look professional...or even, appetizing.

They turned out more like fried pancakes with holes in the middle-I had a bit of a rising issue, and was too impatient, so I tossed the 3/4 of them that didn't actually rise in the searing hot oil anyways.  Unfortunately, the little dough rings of yum didn't puff up with pride after their bath in the oil.

You know there's a problem when the doughnuts are shorter than the doughnut holes.

Beautiful icing job courtesy of Leanne who probably could get a job in the doughnut industry should she ever be so inclined.

I'd like to tell you that the ugly appearance and overall grade of a D- on Project: Homemade Doughnuts kept me from eating them, but...

That would be a complete and utter lie.

Unless you are under the impression that having 8 doughnuts is just like having none.

Which I am.  8?  0?  Pretty much the same thing.

And for the record, their shouldn't be doughnut discrimination because even ugly doughnuts are delectable little treasures.  Krispy Kreme has nothing on me.

Yum! I wish I had about 4 more of those right now:) I'm pretty sure that 8 flat doughnuts count as -2 real ones.
