Man, I wish I had a Brain

I had a bit of a problem waking up this morning, as per usual. Toss in a shower of warm vomit, and voila! Problem solved-I am wide awake. I don't do barf. And I was showered in it from head to...well, crotch, as was she. And not only was she, our sheets, our down comforter, and her pacifer were loaded with the smell of rotten milk.

Needless to say, I have never gotten ready in the morning any quicker. And everywhere I turned this morning...I smelled vomit. I felt like there was a pesky little cloud following me-I hope no one else noticed it, because I most definitely did not have time to shower after she did that. I'm pretty sure this was all triggered by her [incredibly sensitive] gag reflex. We've gagged her on multiple occassions with her pacifer-by accident, mind you-but this morning I was trying to soothe her with that and the next thing I knew I was drowning in this nasty substance. She seems like she feels fine, so I'm hoping that's all it was.

Today as I sat down with my guided reading group, I had a student say to me: "You make that chair look like a squishy chair?" I questioned her further, asking her what she meant, and she thoughtfully explained, "Well, when you sit down in it, it goes pshhhhhhhh." -dies- And here I thought no one had noticed that I still had those pesky 7 pounds to lose (and more to be ideal). She went on to tell me that it wasn't because I was fat...just that I was heavy. I guess I should get a little more serious with this whole diet thing.

Another kiddo comment, more of the funny variety (at least to me): we had the kids all play a game called Beat the Calculator where they are all given a math fact and the kids with calculators must type it in, while the kids with brains just do it in their heads. We did this to show them that the calculators are much slower than their brains (at this point). Anyways, when we divided them, this one boy who had been assigned to the calculator half of the room, plodded up to grab his calculator and said, "Man, I wish I had a brain."

The smell of vomit is a hard smell to get past. Especially baby vomit, it tends to stick with you for a while.

What an awesome game to play with the kids. Hopefully they see their brains are better than calculators to depend on.
